The last two days in Brief
Wednesday - True to predictions of the fern (that lovely warm breeze) the weather turned terrible on Wednesday so we made our way to Bern. Once there it rained more. We did attempt to wander around the city - I did see the Bern Bears in their new improved 'pit'. The Pit is now a lovely terrace with hidey holes for the bears. Its a reasonable size so I didn't feel it was too cruel.
The rain continued to get worse so we retraced our steps to the train and information center where a very bored man gave up a map and circled the natural history museum for us. We walk there hey we were already wet. We then spent the next two hours in the Einstien exhibition/museum. It is a rabbit warren! the museum - with strange dead ends that you turn around from.
Walking back the most amazing rainbow appeared.
We got back to Wilderswil about 2130 - rather tired but satisfied if not aweinspired from our 'town day'. We probably should have planned it better and gone straight to the museum rather than get wet first but hey!
Today (Thursday) Forecast on the weather 'cloudy' but no rain - Day dawns in fantastic style low fog in some valleys but nothing major. So off we trot on the slow train to Lauterbrunnen and from there a cable car to Grutschalp and then another high train to Murren. Now remember that thing about heights and how well I fared going to first relaxed by the sound of the cow bells... the next cable car scared me the one after that welll .. The cable cars went from around 1600 meters above sea level to 2970 - yes over an entire kilometer upwards in under 10 minutes.. sheer rock walls swinging closer! But I did it - admittedly on the way down before we got moving there was a seven year old who I growled at as he got curious about the pilot (would they call the drivers pilot?) controls.
Anyway we did the JAmes Bond Mountain Aka Schilthorn and it was amazing.. better than jungfrau anyway to be honest. Not as touristy although we did enoy the james bond exhibition they had up there, and had the most expensive chicken burger I'd ever eaten in the revolving restaurant!
Once back to the lofty 1600 meter level we wandered back to Grutschalp and took the final cable car back to Lauterbrunnen.(around 700 meters if your interested in the altitude) It was getting reasonably late considering we had left before 0900 today but we still went for a walk and found the spot where Ken decided to fall in love with Switzerland - they have put more park benches at the picnic area but its mostly the same - we celebrated our trip with a drink then wandered back for our last train ride down the valley to Wilderswil.
Early dinner at the local pizza restaurant and bar and now time to get ready for the move to Norway.
We have to be on the first train out of Wildersil at 0550 tomorrow morning.. .it is going to be PITCH black.. still they have street lights so we should be fine.
