Glasgow to Lake District

Nearly a week later I get back on the computer to write some more.

So lets see...

Wednesday we traveled from London to Glasgow and I've written about the service on the train.
That evening we had takeout with Jeanne and Jenna

Thursday was a quiet day but Jeanne made us an awesome Scottish fry up (aka heart attack food) Lovely streaky bacon (why is british pork so good guess they have had a long time to make it good!) Square sausage, the pork links (normal sausage), Blackpudding and toast we forwent the eggs and beans, but there was so much anyway it wasn't needed.

Picked up the car a Vauxhall Astra - its reasonably nice, but i think we prefer our i30.

Then in the evening we drove out to Kilmacolm for dinner with Jane and David. It's always a little odd the feeling of family that comes with visiting, it is relaxed and feels more like visiting family than visiting Australian aunts and uncles. Jane and I went and visited Grandma who initially didn't remember me but did remember Dad and Mum and then worked out who I was. We didn't stay long and hopefully didn't disturb her routine too much.

David outdid himself again with dinner.. Cauliflower and Stilton soup followed by roast lamb with trimmings, Jane made a apple and bramble crumble and then cheese and ports!

Friday
Another slow start, these appear to be the standard for this holiday.... Today was a shopping day and visiting museums, Off into town on the train, to find Ken a Kilt! after a slight discussion over tartans, did he go the muted Wexford or a Stuart tartan. He learned how to tie his shoes and put on his Kilt then off to the transport museum.

After losing Kens glasses we backtracked to try and find them but to no avail. Luckily, he has a second pair! otherwise we might have had to get the script sent over and a new set made up. He is now slightly paranoid about losing the second pair. We think it was knocked off taking camera/bags on and off. but who knows!

We had dinner at church on the hill and visited the old hospital, catching the night duty girls. It was the first time Ken had seen inside the Vicky. Think old traditional hospital with that strange cabbage, old person, old building, school, court room smell.. Anyway we had a cuppa tea in the 'tea room' with Karen and Gemma. Was good to catch up with some of the guys!

Saturday
Today we visited with Theresa one of Ken's work colleagues. She lives outside Glasgow, we ate lunch at an Italian place then wandered around merchant city before settling in for more chats at a Starbucks.

What amazed me as we sat there was the sheer numbers of people moving back and forth. Huge numbers that you only see in Australia if there is an event on. I had totally forgotten what a Saturday in Glasgow was like. We also had a good laugh at the number of young women with bright orange skin and its not through liver failure but too much tanning lotion of the wrong colour. Why do they think orange looks good?

I didn't see my favourite Scottish clan band Albannach but I did see Clanadonia or rather listened to them. There was a great photo opportunity as one of the human statues (who was on a smoke break) went and had a chat to the clans men. ha this green painted man in a green painted suit (he was obviously attempting to be a copper statue) talking to these wild haired barely clothed but for the muted coloured kilt men.

Well I think that's enough for one post.. now to try and load some images!

Hope you make it away before Ken finds the wode shop! Maybe the orange skin is a feminine statement about past wode and green men!

I'd have liked to see Ken paint himself blue. :) I"ve been wearing my Scottish head band in the lake district and no one had said anything yet.. so maybe not too many green men about
